INTENT

At Tirlebrook Primary School we have designed an inspiring curriculum for the teaching of Personal, Social, Health and Economic (PSHE) education.

Our PSHE curriculum endeavours to guide our children to become healthy, independent, resilient and confident members of society. It aims to help them understand how they are developing personally and socially and tackles many of the moral, social and cultural issues that are part of growing up. We provide our children with varied opportunities to learn about rights and responsibilities and appreciate what it means to be a member of a diverse society.

Children at Tirlebrook Primary School are encouraged to develop their sense of self-worth by playing a positive role in contributing to school life and the wider community in a number of meaningful and exciting ways. Our PSHE curriculum progressively develops and embeds communication, social and emotional skills. Through our PSHE curriculum, we develop resilient and articulate children and young adults who are able to express their opinions confidently, convey their emotions and develop an understanding of the value of being emotionally, socially and economically “ready for life” from the early years of school right up to Year 6 and beyond.

Our PSHE curriculum will provide opportunities for children to learn about other cultures and deepen their understanding of the world around them; it will teach our children to respect the diversity of the society and the world in which we live and teach them to show tolerance towards others.

At Tirlebrook Primary School, personal, social, health and economic education (PSHE) is an embedded part of our broad and balanced curriculum. Pupils’ spiritual, moral, social and cultural (SMSC) development is at the heart of our school ethos of “Explore. Enjoy. Excel. Together.” Additionally, our school values of “Community”, “Creativity”, “Positive Attitude”, “Environment” and “Kindness” are an everyday part of life at Tirlebrook and consistently referred to throughout the school day across all subjects. British Values are promoted through the overarching aims and objectives of our PSHE curriculum by supporting our children to become healthy and responsible members of society, as well as preparing them for life and work in modern Britain.

The intent of our PSHE curriculum is to deliver a learning experience which is accessible to all and that will maximise the outcomes for every child.
