Tirlebrook Receives School Games Platinum Award - What An Honour!
We are delighted to announce that we have been awarded the School Games Platinum Kitemark for the very first time. This is the highest status of Kitemark that can be awarded. We are thrilled that we have been recognised for our consistently high-levels of enthusiasm and commitment to school sport by the School Games National Organisation. We are one of very few schools in the country to receive this honour.
The Platinum Award was launched in 2017 as an extension of the School Games Mark to reward schools who have maintained consistently high standards with and enthusiasm for their school sport provision. As part of the extended application, eligible candidates, who had achieved five successive gold awards or were likely to receive the gold award for a fifth consecutive year, were asked to submit a detailed case study along with a supporting paragraph from their School Games Organiser (SGO). To achieve the gold award a school must meet a high-level set of criteria, which includes engaging a high percentage of young people in both curricular and extracurricular activities, participating in a minimum number of competitions across different sports, and reaching out to target groups including young leaders, volunteers, and those previously identified as the school’s least-active pupils. To do this for five successive years is very impressive - thus the awarding of the Platinum Kitemark.
This is an incredible achievement and we will hold this status for a period of two years until we will be required to apply again in the summer of 2021. Congratulations to everyone who has contributed to our success with the School Games - it is an honour to be recognised in this way.
We are determined to continue with our pledge to ensure that at Tirlebrook the children explore, enjoy and excel together in as many ways as possible.
School Games Sports Day - Successful At The Third Attempt! - Thursday, 11th July 2019
On Thursday 11th July we finally gathered together for a day of sporting activities for our annual School Games Sports Day. The children came to school in sports kit and their house colours and took part in Non-Competitive Games together in their houses in the morning. At midday we opened the school gates and it was brilliant to welcome so many families to our community picnic. Having enjoyed lunch and Tirlebrook 10 (well done to all the grown ups who took part!) it was time for the races - first the infants and then the juniors. The day ended with a group photo and the results being announced. Congratulations to Hastings (yellow) who were our overall winners this year!
Tewkesbury Primary Schools' Sports Network's Rounders Competition - Tuesday, 2nd July 2019
Congratulations to our Y6 rounders team who headed over to Tewkesbury School o take part in this year's final sporting event of the year, the Tewkesbury Rounders Competition. Following some very close group games against the John Moore (lost 10 rounders to 8½) and Twyning (lost 10 rounders to 6), the team found themselves in the 5th and 6th place play-off against Tewkesbury C. of E. Primary School. Being edged out of that game too meant that a sixth-placed overall finish didn’t really reflect the excellent play and attitude of the team on the day. The whole team can be very proud of their accomplishments.

Cotswold Athletics Competition @ The Prince of Wales Stadium, Cheltenham - Saturday, 22nd June 2019
Following the disappointment of the Tewkesbury Athletics competition being cancelled, it was wonderful to be able to take an extremely enthusiastic team over to the Prince of Wales Stadium in Cheltenham to participate in this year’s Cotswold Athletics Championships. Alongside schools from far and wide across the county, Tirlebrook competed in what was the 24th anniversary of the event. Competitors from Highnam, Stratton (near Cirencester), St. Lawrence (near Lechlade), Tewkesbury C. of E., Woodchester (near Stroud) and of course Tirlebrook gave it their very best shot in a variety of sprint and long distance races, shuttle and baton relays, and throwing and jumping field events. Tirlebrook experienced great success in a number of events, but it was the determination and positive attitude on display that was most impressive. This was typified by William who, despite being injured, remained at the competition throughout the morning to cheer his teammates on. Overall winners of events included Silas in the Y5/Y6 boys’ 1000m and Y6 boys’ 400m, Zoe in the Y5 girls’ 200m, Tilly in the Y4 girls’ 50m, Isobel in the Y5 girls’ 75m, Hattie, Zoe, Isobel and Leah in the Y5 girls’ 4 x 100m baton relay, Hattie, Isobel, Edward and Freddie in the Y5 mixed 4 x 100m baton relay and Owen, Aaron, Finlay and Silas in the Y5 & Y6 Boys 4 x 200m baton relay. Tirlebrook went on to finish in 4th position out of the 6 competing schools, scoring 99 points on what was a terrific sporting morning of fun, friendship and competition. Well done everyone!

Tewkesbury Primary Schools' Sports Network's NFL Flag Football Competition - Thursday, 20th June 2019
Twelve Y5s headed over to Tewkesbury School to participate in the Tewkesbury regional NFL Flag Football competition. Flag Football is the junior version of American Football, designed to get children involved in the sport at an early age and without physical contact. It was a fine afternoon for playing and although the Tirlebrook Rams lost all four of their matches, they were always in the games and unfortunate to come away without a victory. They lost their first game against the Tewkesbury C. of E. Cardinals by 3 touchdowns to 1 and then lost to eventual winners, the Gretton Giants, by the same score line. In a really close game with the Swindon Village Seahawks, a last-minute touchdown for their opponents saw Tirlebrook lose by 2 touchdowns to 1. And their final match versus the Deerhurst Dolphins ended in a defeat by 1 touchdown to 0. Every player contributed and developed their skills and gameplay understanding throughout the afternoon. Congratulations to Freddie who was picked out as the Rams’ MVP. Well done.

Level 3 School Games Mountain Biking County Finals - Thursday, 13th June 2019
Tirlebrook’s Mountain Biking team attended the Level 3 School Games Mountain Biking County Finals at Hartpury College after qualifying for the competition having finished runners-up in the local event just a few days before. Eleven teams from across Gloucestershire competed in the Team Race. Tirlebrook’s team showed determination, self belief and teamwork to make it through the heats and qualify for the Final. They battled hard and came 4th overall. Ewan was recognised by the Hartpury Sports Leaders for his 'Teamwork' and received a certificate and Gracie received one for 'Determination'. They also had the pleasure of meeting Natasha Hunt who plays in the England Rugby Team. Well done everyone.

Tewkesbury Primary Schools' Sports Network's Archery Competition - Wednesday, 22nd May 2019
On yet another warm day in May, a large group of Year 4, Year 5 and Year 6 children ventured over to Tewkesbury School to compete in the annual Tewkesbury Primary Schools' Sports Network's Archery Competition. Two teams were created from the group and worked together to compete in two archery activities: shooting from 5 metres with full archery equipment and using arrows to shoot at a variety of targets. With support, guidance and encouragement from the Xperience team, the teams participated enthusiastically, learning lots of skills and techniques in both activities as they attempted to amass the highest number of points possible. At the end of the event, one of the two Tirlebrook teams managed to achieve second position and were awarded silver medals. However, both teams should be proud of their performance. All of the children took part respectfully and positively. Congratulations to our team members who were awarded School Games values bands: Luke for 'Self-Belief', Rachel for 'Respect', Anthony for 'Teamwork' and Rose for 'Honesty'.

Tewkesbury Primary Schools' Sports Network's Mini-Red Tennis Festival - Tuesday, 21st May 2019
On a bright and sunny evening at Tewkesbury School, three teams of Year 4 competitors came together to participate in the Tewkesbury Primary Schools' Sports Network's Mini-Red Tennis Festival. Splitting into pairs, the twelve children were involved in five matches, playing a range of teams from the other schools from Tewkesbury and even playing each other! The teams worked really well together and their skill level developed brilliantly over the course of the evening. More importantly, the participants thoroughly enjoyed themselves. Although there was not any medals or awards, children were awarded School Games values bands for their attitudes. Congratulations to all of our children who received a band: Oliver, Maja, George R, Julia, Tilly and Molly. Well done to all of our teams for their fantastic attitudes.

Move More Quad Kids Athletics Competition - Friday, 17th May 2019
Despite the chilly weather and dull skies, Tirlebrook took to the Tewkesbury School field to compete in the annual Move More Level 2 School Games Quad Kids competition. A very large group travelled over to the field, including all of the Year 6 students and two Year 4 teams. Led by our very organised Year 6 Sports Leaders, the competition began. Each team started at a different event and rotated round during the morning until all four events were completed: Howler Throw, Standing Long Jump, 50m Sprint, 400m Run. As the two Tirlebrook teams rotated through each activity, the children began to show more and more confidence. Even though it was quite cold, the children were smiling, supporting each other and having a wonderful time competing. At the end of the competition, once all of the points had been collated, the winners were announced: in 5th place, The John Moore School, in fourth place Twyning, earning bronze medals Isbourne Valley... At this point the children had started to realise their fate... In second place, Tirlebrook team 2. They proudly stood to receive their silver 'Move More' medals handed to them by our scorers Izzy, Gracie and Ruben. And then, in first place and receiving a gold 'Move More' medal, it was Tirlebrook team 1! What a super achievement from the two teams. Before leaving, a number of School Games values bands were awarded to some of Tirlebrook's competitors: Julia was awarded 'Passion', Bobby was awarded 'Determination', Alex was awarded 'Self-Belief' and Alesha was awarded 'Teamwork'. Well done all! We are all thrilled to see both teams finish the event with an award. They had such a wonderful time and they really did push themselves to their limits.

Move More Panathlon Competition @ All Saints' Academy, Cheltenham - Friday, 3rd May 2019
A team of nine KS2 children headed over to All Saints' Academy in Cheltenham for the annual 'Move More' Panathlon. The event is filled with a variety of activities, each one aimed at developing an area of the children's physical development. Not only that, the teams must work together to collect points, meaning their co-operation and teamwork was also needed throughout. Each activity was led and scored by a School Games organiser, who were extremely good at encouraging the teams, teaching them new skills and helping them to develop tactics. From target throwing to rolling and aiming, the children were engaged and excited by each skill station. They had a brilliant time in their bright green Panathlon t-shirts.
At the end of the competition, with all points collected and totalled, Tirlebrook were awarded the silver Panathlon medal. With their fantastic efforts and teamwork, the team achieved an impressive 2nd place award, which they were very, very proud of. Two of our team members were also awarded a School Games values band. Jaelynn was awarded 'Respect' and Leland was awarded 'Passion'. Congratulations to our fantastic and positive team. We are so glad that you had such an enjoyable experience.

Inter-House Swimming Galas - Wednesday, 21st April 2019 & Thursday, 22nd April 2019
We were extremely excited to welcome back our annual house swimming gala, albeit being held a couple of months earlier in the year than usual.
Beginning with our Year 3 and Year 4 competition, a group of our Year 6 Young Sport Leaders helped to run, lead and organise the event. They set up the swimming pool area, before taking to their stations to help run the competition with roles including: handing out position cards, calculating points, recording scores, organising equipment and finally cheering on, encouraging and supporting the competitors.
The Year 3 and 4 children were eager but nervous about this event. However, each child put their all into each of their races, from width races, float and woggle events, length races and relays, the teams worked brilliantly together and they showed extremely positive attitudes throughout the competition.
Each competitor competed in their own individual race within each heat before possibly entering the finals. The fun events then took place, including the largest and smallest splash followed by the stylish dive.By the end of the competition, all of the children were smiling and thoroughly enjoying a quick, fun splash in the pool before getting out to get changed. It was a fantastic way to celebrate all of the amazing hard work and effort that goes into their swimming lessons both for the staff and the children. Well done to all of our swimmers especially those that pushed themselves and entered their race despite their nerves.
The Year 5 and 6 event was the following day, led by some of our Year 4 children and several members of staff. Like the Y3 and Y4 event, the competition was organised into heats and finals followed by fun events and relays. The progress and confidence displayed by all of our swimmers was admirable and we could not be more proud of each child. The races were very close, very competitive and very enjoyable to watch. Each swimmer put their all into swimming as fast as they could, both in their individual and team races. The noise that echoed throughout the pool was fantastic as each team cheered for their team mates. They all demonstrated excellent teamwork and sportsmanship.
At the end of the competition, the year 3 and 4 event points were collated to find a winner of their event and the points for the year 5 and 6 event were collated. All of the points from both events were then added together to identify an overall house swimming gala winner. Congratulations to Montague House for taking the trophy.
From Year 3 to Year 6, it continues to be phenomenal to see just how effective and valuable the children's swimming lessons are.

Heidi's Heroes Swimming Intervention Programme and Celebration Day @ The Sandford Lido, Cheltenham - April 2019
This term, five of our KS2 children have participated in the wonderful Heidi’s Heroes programme to enable them to develop their confidence, competence and enjoyment of swimming. The children took part in four half-an-hour small group swimming tuition sessions across one week. They were able to work closely with the swimming instructors who could give their full attention to each individual child to enable them to improve and develop in their own specific ways.
But what is Heidi’s Heroes? Heidi’s Heroes was launched in 2013 as an ongoing and permanent tribute to Heidi Wood, a former world championship swimmer from Cheltenham, who died of cancer in 2012 aged 51. Her legacy lives on through this amazing programme. Working alongside Swim England, formerly the Amateur Swimming Association, they are able to offer children in KS2 the opportunity to develop their swimming confidence but also their life-saving skills.
‘Launched last year Swim for Summer has now seen more than 130 primary school children from Cheltenham learn to swim or greatly improve their swimming in an intensive five day coaching course. Heidi’s Heroes funded tuition from ASA accredited coaches as well as paying for pool time at Leisure at Cheltenham and at Tewkesbury School pool. After the first course in 2014, 32 children aged nine and ten had learned to swim, or improved their swimming, leaving able to confidently swim 25 metres in line with National Curriculum expectations. Many overcame their fear of the water and learnt to swim. Others proudly achieved their 25 metre ASA certificate and badge.’
A presentation day is held at The Lido after the course in which the excited young swimmers each receive a Heidi’s Heroes certificates, achievement badges and goodie bags in front of their proud parents. It was a relatively cold day to attend, but the children thoroughly enjoyed it. Well done to all of our Heidi's Heroes swimmers. Frank Holley Memorial Cup for Commitment to Running - Friday, 5th April 2019
County Netball Play-Off - Tuesday, 2nd April 2019
Due to our fantastic success in the Tewkesbury Netball League, our netball team went through to play the winners of the Cheltenham Netball League, Grangefield to determine who would represent the Tewkesbury and Cheltenham area in this year's county finals. It was clear quite early on as to how Grangefield had managed to defeat the other Cheltenham teams, as their netball speed, fluency and accuracy was excellent. They most certainly provided our team with a good level of challenge! Despite Grangefield's superb performance and confidence, our players worked extremely hard to keep defending and regain possession. Unfortunately for our team, in the end, Grangefield won by a scoreline of 6-3. The end of the match was very positive. Our teams shook hands, congratulated each other and shared a juice and some sweets before parting ways. Our team were slightly disappointed but were reminded that they have worked so hard and so positively throughout this netball season. Not only had they won the league but they had won the cup too. Despite a final defeat, our team should be extremely proud of themselves for what they have accomplished. We most certainly are. Congratulations to Grangefield on their success. We wish them every bit of luck for the county competitions.

Tewkesbury Primary Schools' Sports Network's Netball Cup - Tuesday, 26th March 2019
Our netball team headed over to Tewkesbury School to participate in the Tewkesbury Primary Schools' Sports Network's Netball Cup. With the league trophy under their belt, the team were eager to try and defend their title and to gain the cup trophy too.
The teams were split into pools. The first round of matches meant that Tirlebrook faced Carrant Brook, Ashchurch and Twyning 1 before finding out if they would qualify for the semi-finals.
During their first match, the team worked superbly to beat Carrant Brook 7-0. Both Finlay and Gracie worked excellently to score seven amazing goals between them. As the rotations were underway, the team swapped bibs and prepared themselves for a challenging match against Twyning 1. Their efforts were not misplaced, and the team managed to score to finish at one apiece, meaning 3 points were awarded for a draw. The teams were quite clearly well matched! In their final game against highly competitive opponents Ashchurch, the team had quite a slow start and it was looking quite likely that the game was going to be lost. However, in the final minute of the game, they kicked into fight mode and scored a fantastic four goals in just one minute! This meant that the final score was 4-3 to Tirlebrook and secured another win for our school.As the points were collated, Mrs Leggett then finalised the arrangements for the semi-finals. In our pool, Carrant Brook finished 4th, Ashchurch 3rd and Twyning 2nd. Our team had managed to gain a 1st position in the pool meaning they would go through to the final to win either the gold or the silver Move More medals.
Their final game was nail-biting, breath-taking and heart-racing, as both teams worked superbly to not only score but to defend. The match against Tewkesbury C of E was extremely close and each team managed to score only one goal each before the final whistle was blown. Mrs Leggett then announced that the next goal would act as sudden death and would be the winner. This added to the huge amount of anticipation already present.
Unfortunately, the defending was just too strong and each team pushed themselves to the limits to try to win the game. Mrs Leggett then blew the whistle and announced that both teams would share the win and earn a gold Move More medal.Congratulations to our amazing Tirlebrook netball team yet again. Not only have they won the league but they have also won the cup. For Tirlebrook, this is the second year running that gold has been won in both events.
Congratulations to Charlotte for earning a 'Self-Belief' School Games values band and to Oakley for being rewarded with a 'Determination' band.

Tewkesbury Primary Schools' Sports Network's Tag Rugby Festival - Thursday, 21st March 2019
A team of eager rugby players ventured over to Tewkesbury Rugby Club to compete in the Tewkesbury Primary Schools' Sports Network's Tag Rugby Festival. Although some of our team had not played tag rugby before, they were really keen to try out a new sport and to play as a part of a team in a sports event.
Led by our captain William, the team performed brilliantly throughout the evening. And despite the fact that they had not practised together at all, they managed to win five matches out of seven. Victories over Twyning, Tredington, The John Moore, Carrant Brook and Queen Margaret's were full of excellent passing, zigzagging runs and frantic tagging. The two defeats came against Tewkesbury C of E Primary School by a scoreline of 2-0 and Mitton by 5 tries to 2 but there was no shortage of effort or determination on show. With some excellent tries by Ruben, Matthew, William, Isobel and Charlotte and some fantastic defence by Charlie, Owen, Freddie and Jordan, the team worked together brilliantly throughout the festival and certainly entertained the many watching parents and friends! The thing that stood out most, however, was the team spirit - this always remained high and positive. The players smiled consistently, cheered each other on, supported even when they were substitutes and congratulated each other on each of their wins as well as congratulating their opponents in every game. They really represented our school well. Well done to all of our players for their efforts and attitudes, particularly to Matthew who carried on when feeling unwell and getting injured, and congratulations to Isobel and Ruben for their achievements in being awarded School Games values bands. Move More Quicksticks Hockey Championships - Finals Night - Monday, 18th March 2019
Finals night followed on one week after the first round and the team could not wait to get stuck in to playing competitive Quicksticks again. The teams were placed into groups depending on their success during the first event. Our team was happily placed in group B alongside Charlton Kings Junior School, Prestbury and Rowanfield. During their first match, the Tirlebrook team lost 3-0 to Charlton Kings. However, our team saw it as a perfect learning opportunity rather than dwelling on a tricky defeat. They congratulated the opposition, said their three cheers and prepared for match number two. The second game was more successful as they managed to win by a scoreline of 2-0 against Prestbury. Their attacking was brilliant but in particular the defence was on fire! Every team player demonstrated fantastic defensive skills and showed no fear as they went in for each block or tackle. In the final match against Rowanfield, the team stormed to victory with a 4-0 win. Matthew wiggled his way through their defence to score most of our goals in this game with our strong defence ensuring that the ball stayed in our attacking half. Every single player finished the event with a huge smile on their face and a new passion for hockey. They were so disappointed that the competition had came to a close. However, before we could leave and hang up our sticks, the team gathered with all of the other schools to say well done to each other, say thank you to the staff and parents who had attended and to reward School Games bands to those children who had been recognised by the staff or umpires during both events. Congratulations to Rose for achieving a 'Self-Belief' band. She was a superb captain throughout the competition. Well done to all of our players. You really did impress everyone watching and we are very proud of you. You put your skills to the test, showed consistently positive and determined attitudes and most importantly, respect to all.

Move More Quicksticks Hockey Championships - Round One - Monday, 11th March 2019
The first round of the Move More Quicksticks Hockey competition at Pates Grammar School saw our team work superbly together to compete in seven matches against different schools. The first game, which was against Grangefield, was a great game to start with as it challenged our team and prepared them for the following matches. Although our team lost 2-0, their spirits were high and their attitudes were positive. The team were cheered on from the rest of the squad on the sideline and they continued to work hard to give Grangefield a challenging game. Our team went from strength to strength and the knock of losing in the first game actually boosted the children's determination, driving them on through the next few matches. They drew 1-1 against Oakwood, they worked brilliantly against Rowanfield to win 4-0 and also went on to defeat St John's 2-0. Not only were the team scoring goals but their defence work was superb and they were successful in preventing the other teams from scoring against them. The next match was certainly a tough one. Bishop's Cleeve 1 were the opposition (the team that actually won the competition overall at finals night) and their strong passes, quick defence and skillful ball play enabled them to win 5-0 against our team. However, our players never gave up and continued to show respect and self-belief. They cheered, applauded and shook hands with the team before having a well-earned rest. Our success rose again in the next part of the competition as we won 2-0 against Prestbury 1, drew 1-1 against Charlton Kings Junior School and won 2-0 against St Marks.
At the end of the evening, our team finished with 4 wins, 2 draws and 2 losses. This was not bad considering many of the children had not competed in a hockey competition before. They had also only had a few weeks of practice at Hockey Club. The children were really pleased with their performance and the adults and staff who attended were thrilled with their hockey skills and sportsmanship. By the end of the event, the children were only more excited, more competitive and more prepared to compete at the upcoming hockey finals night. Tewkesbury Primary Schools' Sports Network's Netball League - Round Two - Tuesday, 5th March 2019
This week saw the return of the netball league for our Year 5/6 netball team. After a very successful Round 1 of the league back in Autumn Term, where the team had accumulated enough points to secure 2nd place, they were excited to return to the courts to try and finish the league in top position to gain the gold!
After a warm up and a team talk, the children were ready to go. Led by our netball captain Gracie, the team entered their first match against Twyning with great enthusiasm. And what a match it was! Not only did Tirlebrook win the game but they managed to score nine goals - seven scored by William and two by Gracie. Not only that, but they also managed to defend excellently, meaning that Twyning did not score one goal during the entire game.
The match gave the team a good boost of confidence to enter match number two. This time, Tirlebrook were up against the team who currently held first place in the league, with 15 points against our 13, Ashchurch. The game was tough, competitive and challenging, but our team pulled through, working superbly to gain a 5 - 1 victory. This time it was Charlotte and Matthew in shooting positions. They went straight into the next match against The John Moore. Again, their effort and communication was excellent, enabling them to win by a score line of 4 - 0. The time then came for the final match against Tewkesbury C of E Primary School. The team had already swapped positions several times as part of the rotation High 5 rules. Their performance, however, was not affected. This game involved every player playing in the position that they were least familiar with and it really challenged them to alter their positional sense and their tactics. By the end of the match, although Tewkesbury C of E scored the first goal, our team soon found their feet and came back fighting to win 5 - 1.At the end of the competition, schools, staff, parents and players gathered to hear the results of the tournament. Before the results were announced, some of the players were awarded School Games values bands for their role-model attitudes and effort. Congratulations to Gracie who was awarded a 'Self-Belief' band and to William for earning another 'Respect' band. These values are strongly promoted and highly valued at Tirlebrook.
The results of the competition were calculated using the points awarded from both rounds 1 and 2. The top 3 schools, therefore receiving a Move More medal, were: in 3rd position The John Moore, in 2nd Ashchurch and in 1st position, earning a gold medal, Tirlebrook! The team were delighted! This result was also made possible by Ruby and Finlay who attended Round 1 of the league earlier in the year. Therefore they too have received a gold medal for their contribution overall.The results from the league mean that Tirlebrook will now go on to play Grangefield in a play-off for a place in the County Finals in April. Good luck to our team and well done!

Gloucestershire County Cross Country Championships - Saturday, 2nd March 2019
On a bright and breezy, beautiful Saturday morning, ten of our KS2 children, including three runners from Year 4, ventured over to St. Edward's Preparatory School in Cheltenham to compete in a highly competitive, challenging but exhilarating Gloucestershire County Cross Country Championships. Children from around the county who had successfully earned a top 10 position in their respective areas were invited to compete against each other. Districts as well as Tewkesbury included Cheltenham, Cirencester, Gloucester, North Cotswold, Stroud, The Forest of Dean and Wootton & Dursley.
The Boys' Year 4/5 race was first which included Finlay, Owen and Ewan, our youngest runner. What a race it was! All of the boys ran phenomenally. Despite the rough terrain, the climbing hills and the blazing sunshine, they each managed to push themselves to the finish gaining excellent positions. Ewan, despite a fall at the beginning of the race, showed outstanding grit and determination to become the first Tewkesbury Year 4/5 runner home, finishing in an astonishing 15th position. What an incredible performance! Owen and Finlay also ran exceptionally well, gaining positions right next to each other and both in the top 50.
The next to race were the Year 4/5 girls, a race which included Keira and Julia (two Year 4s). Again, they both ran exceptionally well, smiling right through to the finish!
The Year 6 Boys' race was extremely competitive and Aaron performed brilliantly. His race was followed by the one for the Year 6 girls and they all ran their socks off, saving breath for an amazing sprint finish in the last part of the race.
Unfortunately, our runners did not finish in the top 12 positions required to qualify for the Gloucestershire county team to compete in the next round of the event. However, Ewan did receive a medal for being the first finisher for the Tewkesbury District in the Boys' Year 4/5 event. Whatever the finishing position, every child can be proud of the way they tackled the course and the attitude on display in a field of at least 70 top quality cross country competitors.
The overall district results at the end of the morning saw Cheltenham regain the overall trophy from the team from Gloucester. Tewkesbury finished in 5th position in both Year 4/5 races and in the Y6 Girls' event. Tewkesbury finished 8th in the Year 6 Boys' event.
Congratulations to all of our runners who made it to the county competition. It is a fantastic achievement in itself to qualify for such an event but to go, finish and smile at the end - the children should be very, very proud of themselves. At school, we are all really proud of each and every one of you. You conducted yourselves superbly and showed fantastic positive attitudes. Not only that, you were there to support each other too, demonstrating a wonderful community spirit. Well done Tirlebrook and well done Tewkesbury.

Tewkesbury Primary Schools' Sports Network's Cross Country Fun Run & Presentation - Thursday, 28th February 2019
All of our eager and dedicated runners were extremely excited to participate in the Tewkesbury Primary Schools' Sports Network's Cross Country Fun Run as our cross country season came to an end. Dressed up in wigs, costumes and funny t-shirts, our team took to the start line ready to finish their season off in style! It was lovely to see some of our younger students getting involved too, including George from Oak Tree Class. As the race came to a mazy end, the children gathered in their school teams to hear the well-anticipated results of the season.
For the individual competition, trophies and medals were awarded to the top ten boys and top ten girls. Silas received the 1st place trophy for the boys, as he managed to finish in 1st position in every race this season apart from one because he was absent. This is a truly magnificent achievement. Ewan, one of our youngest runners, also received a trophy, finishing in 3rd position overall out of all of the boys - an astonishing feat. Aaron was awarded a medal as he came in 10th position overall out of all of the boys. The girls' results were also superb, with Charlotte and Gracie each receiving a medal for their fantastic achievements of finishing inside the top 10 girls overall.
In the team competition, Tirlebrook retained the overall Large Schools Team Shield by virtue of the boys team finishing in first position overall and the girls team finishing in second position. This is a wonderful achievement, especially to secure the shield for the second year in a row.
What a phenomenal season the children have had. Their hard work, effort and commitment to running have enabled them to not only achieve individually but also as a team. Congratulations to all of our runners and good luck to the ten children (that is a quarter of the places on the team!) who managed to secure a place representing Tewkesbury in the county cross country championships at the weekend. Our very best wishes go to Silas, Aaron, Ewan, Owen, Finlay, Charlotte, Gracie, Martha, Harriet and Keira.

Gloucestershire Cricket Board Non-Stop Cricket Festival - Tuesday, 26th February 2019
Ten children from Years 4 and 5 visited Leisure@ in Cheltenham to participate in a Gloucestershire Cricket Board Non-Stop Cricket Festival, supported by the charity Move More. The competition involved playing a variety of games against different schools with each team completing one innings each. The team that amassed the most runs won each game. The schools competed in different groups and then later in the afternoon teams were there was a progression to the semi-finals and eventually the final.
Tirlebrook performed extremely well, winning three out of their five matches, against Bishop's Cleeve, St John's and Oakwood. Their two defeats came against Springbank Academy and Rowanfield.
Our team were extremely excited to receive a School Games values wristband each for their attitude and effort. Lily and Byran were awarded 'Determination', Isabelle, Ayan, Bobby, Edward B and Edward F were awarded 'Teamwork', Lola received 'Respect', Alex achieved a 'Passion' band and Scarlet walked away from the event with not one but TWO School Games bands, one for 'Determination' and one for 'Teamwork'. What a fantastic achievement!
At the end of the day, the children returned to school extremely excited and proud. They had enjoyed a fantastic day, filled with exciting games, matches, awards, teamwork and fun. Thank you to all of the organisers, children and staff who attended. Mrs Gosden and Mrs Assheton attended the event with the team and supported the children throughout. Thank you.

Tewkesbury Primary Schools' Sports Network's Cross Country Spring Races - Race 5 - Thursday, 14th February 2019
Our cross country season has been one to remember this year. We have had over 30 KS2 children participating in one of the most challenging events of the year, showing amazing commitment to not only race once but five times! As we entered our fifth race, the children prepared themselves both physically and mentally for their final race of the season. Many of our runners were eager to compete and to earn their place in the Tewkesbury District team at the County Cross Country Championships to be held in March.
The boys were first to race this week. The nerves, excitement and anticipation were of a real high, as they took to the start line. After a final breath, the boys listened for the whistle and off their flew! Unfortunately Silas, our 1st position runner, was unable to participate due to ill health, however the other boys pushed themselves hard to gain the best position possible. Ewan was our first boy home, finishing in 3rd place yet again! Aaron and Finlay were our next boys to finish, both within the top 20. The boys ran with great determination and grit. They have truly been amazing this season and every single one of them should be extremely proud of their achievements.
The girls' race was next. As the racers jogged over to the start line, the sounds of encouragement were deafening and the girls were smiling from ear to ear. Again, with great grit and effort, the girls ran as hard as they could, some hoping to gain their place in the team at the county race. Charlotte was our first girl home, followed by Martha and then Tilly. Chloe and Sophie ran also exceptionally well, as did one of our youngest competitors Keira. Julia jumped a whole 20 places based on her position of the previous week and Poppy achieved her PB finishing position of the season. Great news for many of our runners!
Well done to all of our participants, not only for their efforts but for their commitment and dedication to running this year. Tirlebrook 10 and Running Club have been extremely beneficial for many of our children. Attitude is most definitely the key. Our runners have really needed their School Games values throughout this event - self-belief, determination, passion and teamwork, to help each other through some tough races, have all been widely evident. We are extremely proud of all of you and should be very proud of yourself.

Y3 & Y4 Tag Rugby Inter-House Competition - Wednesday, 13th February 2019
The children in Year 3 and Year 4 came together in their houses to compete in a tag rugby inter-house competition in the beautiful Spring sunshine led by 12 of our very helpful and enthusiastic Year 5 and Year 6 sports leaders. The Year 3 and 4 children demonstrated a range of simple skills and tactics that they had been learning in lessons throughout the competition and their individual and collective team performances improved as the afternoon progressed. Our Year 6 children managed the teams, the tags, the refereeing, the scoring and the timing. They were on hand to offer advice to the younger children about their rugby skills and the rules of the game. They were also there to encourage, support and celebrate with the children - it was clearly evident that this was having a really positive impact on the younger children. The houses played each other at least once, rotating players every time someone scored a try. This meant that all of the children had an equal opportunity to play and that the children were never subs for very long. At the end of the event, once the points had been collated, there was a draw for 3rd/4th place between Hastings and Beauchamp. In second place came Montague, who were only a few points behind out 2019 tag rugby winners, WENLOCK! Congratulations to all of our tag rugby players. Your efforts were superb and your attitudes were even better!
Thank you to all of the children who were involved in the competition, including the competitors and the organisers. The Year 5 and Year 6 leaders were exceptional and they really did make the event run smoothly. It was an extremely successful, joyful and positive event and many of the children have already asked to do it again. We look forward to the same happening next year.
Tewkesbury Primary Schools' Sports Network's LKS2 (Y3 & Y4) Football League Round Two - Tuesday, 12th February 2019
Our Y4 football team were extremely excited to participate in round two of this year's Tewkesbury Primary Schools' Sports Network's LKS2 Football League held at Tewkesbury School. With Keira leading the way as captain, the team began the competition with a positive attitude, great determination and fantastic teamwork. This effort most definitely helped, as they were able to draw with their first opposition, Ashchurch. In the second match, despite their collective efforts, they lost 1-0 to Twyning. Oscar made some fantastic saves in goal. During their third game against Gretton, the team played brilliantly, however in the end, they unfortunately once more lost by a 1-0 margin. In their final game, which was certainly the most challenging, our fantastic team worked extremely hard to compete with Tewkesbury C. of E. George T scored an impressive goal to send Tirlebrook into the lead. However, Tewkesbury C. of E. came back with two goals, giving them the overall advantage as they won the game. At the end of the competition, the results from rounds 1 and 2 were combined to calculate an overall finishing position for each school. Although our football team worked really hard and showed great improvement as the matches across the two rounds progressed, a finishing position of 5th place was achieved in the competition.
Congratulations to all of the teams and a huge well done to our team for maintaining such a positive and respectful attitude even though they didn't manage to pick up a win. Ewan and Keira were also congratulated as they received their School Games bands; Ewan received his band for honesty and Keira was awarded the 'Passion' band.

Tewkesbury Primary Schools' Sports Network's Cross Country Spring Season Races - Race 4 - Thursday, 7th February 2019
Despite a very busy and active day, including taking part in our own whole-school iSingPOP concert, the children that headed down to the Vineyards for the first race of the spring season of cross country races performed superbly. This was the 4th race of the current cross country season.
Tirlebrook continues to show great commitment to this event, with over twenty KS2 children representing the school. Considering the busy schedule and their phenomenal iSingPOP performances, the children worked their socks off, many gaining a PERSONAL BEST during their race.
Silas and Charlotte were our first runners home - Silas leading throughout the boys' race to finish in first position for the fourth consecutive race this season and Charlotte showing great determination in the girls' race to gain a personal best third place finish.
In the girls' race, Gracie, Harriet, Keira and Tilly all finished in the top 20 - a fantastic result for the girls! Leah, Chloe, Sophie, Isobel and Julia ran superbly too, all finishing in the top 50 girls home, with some even making it into the top 30. They really worked hard and pushed themselves during this week's race, even though the route had been changed to create more challenge; the girls most certainly did not let that effect their performance or confidence. If anything, they actually performed even better - showing the great grit and resilience that we love to see in our pupils.
The boys' race was just as competitive and just as impressive! Again, many of our runners achieved PERSONAL BESTS! Following on from Silas, Ewan, Aaron, Owen, Finlay and William were the next in line for the finish - all achieving a top 20 place! Ewan, one of our youngest runners in the competition, stormed to a highest-place finish of the season in 3rd position. Aaron also achieved a season's best seventh position in what turned out to be a very successful race for Tirlebrook. Every single runner fought for their place right until the end. Finlay and William also achieved personal bests, running exceptionally well. George T and Freddie worked really hard too and gained a top 50 position - showing great consistency in their running in what is always a very competitive race. Edward, Paddy, Rhys and George R ran extremely well too - trying their best, running against the hills and wind and gaining great finishing places. We are really proud of every single one of them.
The cross country event is a wonderful community gathering where all of the children consistently try hard, challenge themselves and support each other fantastically. We are so proud of you all and we think you are all performing excellently. Well done to you all. Tewkesbury Primary Schools' Sports Network's Football League Round Two - Tuesday, 5th February 2019
Our Year 5 & 6 football team headed over to Tewkesbury School to compete in the second round of this year's Tewkesbury Primary Schools' Sports Network's Football League competition. They played a total of 3 matches: winning 2-0 against Mitton, with Rhys and Silas scoring; drawing 2-2 against Carrant Brook, with William and Silas scoring; and losing 0-1 against Tewkesbury C. of E. This final match was probably their most challenging, and unfortunately, with only seconds to go, a goal was conceded and the team were defeated. At the end of the event, all of the points were collated from the two rounds of the league competition. The team finished in third place overall with 18 points and were awarded bronze Move More medals. It was an extremely successful event and a very close competition. The team worked extremely hard throughout and every player can be proud of both their effort and the attitude they displayed - they represented Tirlebrook superbly. Special congratulations to Joshua and Silas who were awarded School Games bands for their determination and passion respectively. Thanks also to Mrs Assheton and Mrs Tyrrell, who braved the cold winter weather to support our team.

Y5 & Y6 Benchball Inter-House Competition - Monday, 4th February 2019
Our Year 5 and Year 6 children came together to compete in their very first inter-house Benchball competition. The children thoroughly enjoyed competing in their houses, using tactics and skills to try and defeat the other teams. In the first round of games, Hastings and Beauchamp beat their opponents to gain the upper hand. Wenlock and Montague then beat their opposition to gain points for their team too. As the games continued and the points were scored and recorded, each team worked brilliantly together to try to win their matches. In the end, however, there could only be one winner...
With all the points collated, it appeared that the results were indicating a draw overall; Beauchamp and Wenlock both gained the highest number of points. To decide an overall winner, goal difference was then considered. Wenlock are officially this year's Benchball House Champs, followed very, very closely by Beauchamp!
Well done to all of the children who participated with such positive attitudes. Thank you to all of the staff who were involved; scoring, timing and organising the event with expertise. The children thoroughly enjoyed the competition and it is one that we will be adding to our calendar of events to take place every year.
Tewkesbury Primary Schools' Sports Network's Swimming Gala - Wednesday, 9th January 2019
We began our New Year - 2019 - with a great SPLASH! as a team of children from Years 5 and 6 prepared themselves for the annual Tewkesbury Primary Schools' Sports Network's Swimming Gala at Tewkesbury School.
The event started with individual heats, in which Amelia and Charlie competed in the front crawl race, both finishing in an impressive 1st position. The success did not stop there, as Charlotte finished in 1st position and Owen in 2nd in the backstroke race. Breaststroke finished the heat races and Gracie and William competed brilliantly; Gracie finishing first in her race and William 3rd. Amazing results for the whole team.
The well-anticipated canon relay heats was the next event in which every member takes part. Impressively, our team marched through to the final, achieving 1st position in the race. What a superb result for the team and what amazing teamwork on show.
As the children moved through to the finals of the individual races, the team began celebrating their amazing achievements so far. It was very clear that children were having a fantastic time. During the final races, every child pushed themselves to the limit, putting their swimming techniques and stamina to the test. Amelia and Charlie, yet again, glided their way through the water at speed, achieving yet another 1st position each. Charlotte and Gracie also came 1st in their individual final races. Owen and William performed superbly too, achieving 3rd position in their finals race. The team then headed back to their start line for the canon relay final and they won their team race again.
It was then time for the fun/ non-scoring events, including 'Largest Splash', 'Smallest Splash', and 'Stylish Dive'. Congratulations to Tredington and Tewkesbury C of E Primary School for their success in the 'Largest Splash' and 'Stylish Dive'. Amelia managed to gain another win during the event, coming 1st in the 'Smallest Splash' event.
Overall, the competition was an extremely successful and positive event for our school. Not only did the children represent the school superbly, showing respect, teamwork and a positive attitude, but they also showed phenomenal determination and effort. We cannot praise the children enough for their attitudes, despite their success in their races.
When the scores were in and the points had been allocated, our team were awarded gold medals, finishing in 1st position overall with 45 points. Ashchurch were awarded 2nd position and silver medals with 39 points and Twyning gained 3rd position and bronze medals with 29 points.

Cheltenham and North Tewkesbury School Sports Network's Y2 Multi Skills Festival @ Cheltenham College - Tuesday, 18th December 2018
Year 2 headed over to Cheltenham College to take part in the Cheltenham and North Tewkesbury School Sports Network's Year 2 Multi Skills Festival. They headed out on their adventure full of excitement and enthusiasm. During the festival, the children were divided into 11 groups made up from a mixture of children from different schools - what a great way to help to develop confidence, communication and social skills, as well as an array of sports skills. It was lovely to see them interacting with their new friends. They then enjoyed 11 different stations, set up to develop a variety of fundamental skills. The stations included hopping, balancing, sliding, crawling, co-ordination and using a range of different body parts. Some of their favourite challenges included balancing a ball on a tennis racket, jumping through hoops, ball control and co-ordination drills. The staff who attended the event were amazed at how focused and determined the children were. They were truly engaged, challenged and they had a fantastic time.
At the end of what was a lovely, eventful morning, many of the children were awarded School Games values bands for their attitudes and efforts. Cheltenham and North Tewkesbury School Sports Network's Small Schools' Sportshall Athletics Competition - Friday, 14th December 2018
25 of our KS2 children competed in this year's Cheltenham and North Tewkesbury School Sports Network's Small Schools' Sportshall Athletics Competition at Tewkesbury School. This event is always one that we look forward to in the sports calendar and it most definitely did not disappoint. As we entered the sports hall, our two teams were given two different coloured vests, maroon and yellow. The competition began with the fun and exciting obstacle relay which involved sprinting, speed bounces, high leg runs and hurdles. After a clear demonstration, the two teams and the other competitors were raring to go! Both teams performed extremely well and really enjoyed their event.
It was then time for some of the individual and paired events. The girls got ready on the track for their 1+1 and 2+2 relays while the boys headed off to compete in the field events including standing long jump, standing triple jump, vertical jump, speed bounce and the chest push. In the girls' 1+1 sprint relay, both teams competed well, and an impressive second place position was gained by the yellow team. The competitors in this event were Sophie Messenger and Gracie Janes and Leah Trust and Zoe Hunt. Well done to them and well done especially to Harriet Taylor and Martha Simpson who worked extremely well together during the 2+2 relay to achieve a very quick time, also finishing an impressive 2nd place in that race. Keira Hancox and Zoe also competed in this race and did extremely well, considering that they came up against mostly Year 6 children! As the girls finished their relays, the boys returned from their field events to begin their sprint races. The boys 1+1 and 2+2 relays began with a flourish. Aaron Lyon and Owen Burford and Rhys Thomas and Freddie Parsons showed great determination during their 2+2 races in particular.
As the field events came to a close, the children who were participating in the final field event prepared themselves and lined up on the yellow line, javelin in hand. William Bethel, Owen, Harriet, Sophie, Finlay Whittard, Oakley Hiorns, Tilly Burton and Chloe Messenger all did really well in one of the most entertaining events of the afternoon. The competition concluded with the 4x1 relay, a race involving four competitors from each team sprinting for one lap before passing on the baton to their next team mate. Again, the determination and effort shown by each competitor was superb!
At the end of the event, our maroon-wearing youngest team were awarded 6th position in the competition and our yellow team achieved a 2nd position and a silver Move More medal. Congratulations to the following children as they were awarded School Games values bands: Esme Burton and Freddie for Self-Belief, Harriet for Passion and Zoe for Determination. What an excellent effort from everyone! The children can be extremely proud of how well they conducted themselves, how well they ran and the teamwork and positive attitudes that they demonstrated. We are very proud of you all.

Y4 & Y5 Inclusive Sports Inter-House Competition - Thursday, 6th December 2018
Year 4 and Year 5 had an exciting and an action-packed afternoon competing in our very first Inclusive Sports Inter-House competition. Following five weeks of coaching from our 'Move More' coach, Mr Pattison, the children put their newly-acquired skills to the test by competing in two out of the three learned sports. Year 5 began with dodgeball and then moved on to handball, employing a range of strategies and techniques as they competed and demonstrated their understanding of these competitive inclusive sports. Year 4 began their afternoon with three handball matches followed by Boccia. Boccia involved 6 matches being played all at once, with some of the children volunteering to referee and score. It was wonderful to see how much the children have learned in both classes over the last half term. They really enjoyed competing against the other houses and they all worked fantastically well in their teams. It was also lovely to hear so many of the children being so positive about the competitions and about sharing the effort with their teammates. It was a really successful afternoon.
Tewkesbury Primary Sports Network's Y3 & Y4 Football League Round 1 @ Tewkesbury School - Tuesday, 4th December 2018
Our Y4 football team headed over to Tewkesbury School for the first round of this year's Tewkesbury Primary Sports Network's Y3 & Y4 Football League. They competed in matches against the other four schools involved. They drew 1-1 against Ashchurch, lost 1-0 against Twyning, lost 2-0 to Tewkesbury C. of E. Primary School, before storming to a 2-1 victory in their final game against Gretton, which included a fantastic goal from George Teasdale.
The team worked extremely well together, showing great support and teamwork. The team particularly thought that Keira Hancox, our only girl on the team, played extremely well. A teammate said, "Keira tried really hard to think about where to pass the ball and she was a great team player". Oscar Dickson also stood out as he showed great determination and an excellent positive attitude. Congratulations to Oliver King-Smith who received a School Games values band for 'Determination' - an appropriate reward for our excellent captain! Congratulations also to George Radbourne who was awarded a 'Passion' School Games values band - his very first School Games band. Well done George! Indeed, congratulations to all of our team who tried their very best and thoroughly enjoyed their football tournament.

Inter-House World 5000m Challenge - Monday, 26th November 2018
Our KS2 children lined up to take part in their very first inter-house competition of this academic year, The World 5000m Challenge. The children, from Years 3, 4, 5, and 6, gathered together for a team warm up, led by their house captain, before getting ready to begin their challenge. The aim of the race is to complete 5000m as a team as quickly as possible. The World 5000m Challenge winners are then crowned from their combined times. The results of the challenge are also inputted into the Eveque competition website, where our children's results can be compared to the results of other children from schools around the world.
The Year 6 children set off in their houses first, setting a great example for the rest of the juniors with their determination and positivity. The Y5 children, representing the four houses, then competed, followed by the children in Year 4 and then Year 3. It was great to see so many children supporting and encouraging their house teammates and to hear so many cheers of positivity.
Congratulations to everyone for participating so well and particularly to our house captains for taking the lead with their house warm up and for organising their teams. Thanks too to the adults who were there to record the results as well as to encourage the children throughout the event.
Tewkesbury Primary Sports Network's Football League Round 1 @ Tewkesbury School - Tuesday, 20th November 2018
Our football team headed over to Tewkesbury School on a wet and extremely cold afternoon for the first round of this year's Tewkesbury Primary Sports Network's Football League. They played a total of four games in which they drew 1-1 with The John Moore, defeated Twyning 2-0, won 4-0 against Queen Margaret's, and lost their final game 2-1 against Ashchurch. The points accrued from these results have put the team in a great position to challenge for medals in the second part of the league, taking place in February, when they will play the three remaining Tewkesbury schools who have entered the league.
The team played with great enthusiasm and effort and demonstrated all of the School Games values throughout the event, most notably standing out for 'Determination' and 'Teamwork'. Congratulations to three of our players who were awarded individual School Games bands at the competition, chosen by the organisers and referees. Well done to Silas Fox, Matthew Janes and Aaron Lyon who were our proud wristband receivers. Silas was awarded the 'Determination' band, Matthew was awarded the 'Respect' band and Aaron proudly accepted the band for 'Teamwork'. Well done to all three boys for this achievement. They should be extremely proud that they have stood out in such a positive way and represented themselves and Tirlebrook so well.

ESFA Large Schools' Football Tournament @ Tewkesbury School - Wednesday, 7th November 2018
Our Year 6 footballers headed over to Tewkesbury School for this year's ESFA Large Schools' Football Tournament, led by captain, Anthony Zvarych. They played a total of five matches in all throughout the competition. They began with a 1-1 draw with The John Moore Primary, before going on to win 1-0 against Queen Margaret's School. This was followed up with a 2-0 win against Mitton before two 0-0 draws, against Carrant Brook Junior and Tewkesbury C. of E. schools respectively.
At the end of the competition, the first place position was held jointly by Tirlebrook and Tewkesbury C. of E. However, due to goal difference, Tewkesbury C. of E. were announced as the overall winners, being awarded the gold Move More medals as they scored five goals compared to Tirlebrook's three. Our team proudly collected silver Move More medals as runners up in what was a superbly fought and very, very close competition.
All players demonstrated excellent determination and teamwork, working with each other brilliantly to score great goals and concede just one throughout the afternoon. Congratulations to Silas Fox who was picked out by the organisers for particularly demonstrating the School Games value of 'Determination', and he was awarded a band for his efforts. A huge thank you also goes to Mrs. Assheton and Mrs. Tyrrell, who supported the team, organised the players and braved the wet and windy weather throughout the afternoon.

Tewkesbury Primary Schools' Sports Network's Netball League Round 1 @ Tewkesbury School - Tuesday, 16th October 2018
Our new netball squad for 2018-2019 headed over to Tewkesbury School and competed in the first round of this year's Tewkesbury Primary Schools' Sports Network's Netball League. Despite only two after-school training sessions so far this year, the team performed amazingly!
The first round of the league involved Tirlebrook competing in 3 games. Our first match was against Carrant Brook and the children were determined to win their first game. Every player on the court contributed superbly to a 4-0 victory, with fantastic goals from Ruby Butler and Matthew Fowler. And the success did not stop there.
After shaking hands and saying three cheers to Carrant Brook, the team were straight in to their second game against The John Moore Primary. Although the game was a friendly, the children still pushed themselves to work hard and to work brilliantly as a team. Finlay Whittard played brilliantly in defence; he was able to get in front of his player and was able to stop several vital passes between The John Moore's attackers in the shooting semi-circle. The game ended in a 2-2 draw, with neither team deserving to be victorious in what was a good-spirited, highly competitive and closely fought game.
The team's third match, but second competitive game, was against Deerhurst & Apperley. Again the match was close, but Tirlebrook managed to fight for the win, scoring 4 goals to Deerhurst's 1 in reply. This time, Matthew and Charlotte Peirce were our goal scorers, with Ruby now playing in defence.
The team headed into the next game extremely positively - another friendly, this time against Ashchurch. This match was the most competitive and challenging of the evening, and there were strong players on court for both teams. However, due to their fantastic determination and grit, Tirlebrook finished with another draw, 3-3, a score that the team were extremely happy about.
Our final game of the night was against Mitton. By this point in the competition, the team were really becoming fluent. Their communication had improved as the games went on, their ability to spot space and their team players was constantly developing and their shooting had become far more accurate. Combining this fluency with a huge amount of positivity, the team stormed to victory with a 6-0 win. This was a result that most definitely put smiles on everyone's faces. It was very clear that the team were very proud of themselves and each other. What a successful night it turned out to be - the whole team demonstrated the Tirlebrook team spirit and fantastic sportsmanship that we have become accustomed to. Every team member made a huge contribution, including William Bethel and Gracie Janes who were extremely strong in defence throughout the evening, intercepting many passes and blocking many goals. The team needed everyone to perform well and to contribute and they would not have achieved what they did without this. It is extremely surprising to think that with such success in the first round, not one of our team members had played competitive netball before. We hope that this experience has given them a taste of what netball has to offer.
At the end of the competition, Matthew, our top goal scorer of the day, was awarded a School Games Band for 'Honesty'. Congratulations Matthew. You should be very proud of yourself! After the points were added and 'the scores were in', we are delighted that the Tirlebrook team have got exactly what they deserved - an undefeated second position in the Netball League so far. We are sure that they cannot wait until Round 2!

Active Gloucestershire School Games Awards - Cheltenham Town Hall - Thursday, 13th September 2018
Tirlebrook were extremely excited to attend the Active Gloucestershire School Games Awards evening, held at Cheltenham Town Hall. Parents from our previous Year 6 class, their children and a group of Tirlebrook staff proudly came together to attend the awards. Before taking our seats, the children and their families were invited to take part in a range of engaging and active activities, including circus skills, Zumba, dance workshops and many more! The evening began with many thank yous, congratulations and finally a presentation about 'Why we do what we do, who is it for?' and 'What kind of impact are we truly having on the children's lifestyle choices?' Along with four other schools, Tirlebrook were nominated for the 'Highest Participation in sporting events by a Primary School' award - this is something that we have been regularly recognised for over the last few years. Unfortunately, Tirlebrook did not take home the trophy on this occasion. However, we feel extremely proud as a school to have been nominated and recognised. It was a wonderfully positive evening that enabled us all to look back with pride on the superbly successful year that we have had in 2017-2018. Thank you to all of the children and parents who attended to celebrate our nomination with us. Thank you to all of the staff who attended too, showing their commitment to our school, as without them, we would not be able to achieve any of it! A final thank you goes out to a special member of our school, Mr. Lockley, who worked hard to put together our application for this award. We are so proud of our school!
KS1 Cheltenham Town Football Coaching - Wednesday, 12th September 2018
Our Year 1 and Year 2 class were very lucky this week, as they were visited by not only Cheltenham Town Football Community Coaches but they were also introduced to their flighty CTFC mascot, Whaddney. The children had lots of fun, playing team games, developing their balance and agility, and putting all of those skills into action as they completed a range of football drills, led by the coaches. Over the next eight weeks, the children will work with the Cheltenham Town coaches every Wednesday afternoon, during their PE sessions. The coaches will be planning and delivering sessions that enable the children to develop their confidence, balance, agility, co-ordination and most importantly, their attitudes towards physical activity and sport. We can’t wait to welcome them all back again next week!
