Through the Ages

Join the children as they travel back in time to learn about life in the Stone Age, Iron Age and Bronze Age. As historians, children will interpret artefacts and information from across these periods of history to increase their awareness of the rich culture of the people living in these eras. Building on prior knowledge, children will deepen their knowledge and understanding of language, communication, art and religion, as well as researching the tools and weapons needed by early humans during these challenging and dangerous periods of time.

Food, Glorious Food!

Throughout this topic, children will explore the wonderful world of food and the processes involved in getting the food we love to our plates. As geographers, children will investigate the origins of everyday food items and build on their previously learned geographical skills to map the locations locally and nationally before extending to globally. Using what they have learned, children will debate the issue of importing goods from other countries and the impact that this has on our carbon footprints as opposed to sourcing food locally and the benefits of this. Following this, children will become engrossed in an in-depth study of chocolate and use multi-curricular skills to design and produce a nutritiously balanced chocolate snack!

Spring Term (I)

Great Inventors

Turning back time, children will enter the era of the Victorians and find out about some amazing inventors and designers and their creations! In the role of an historian, children will discover changes that took place during this time that changed the world and are still important to us today. The children will study the life and work of Isambard Kingdom Brunel and Alexander Graham Bell. While being immersed in Victorian inventions, the children will also take the chance to explore Victorian life and the similarities and differences of living during this era and in the modern day...particularly comparing school life for children during the Victorian age!

Grand Designs

We present the designers of the future! Children will step into the shoes of artists, architects and engineers while studying grand designs and designers from around the world. Children will investigate the history of bridges and structures, including how designs and materials have changed over the years. Inspired by further research and a focussed study of selected bridges and structures with local, national and international significance, the children will be challenged to design, make and evaluate their own bridges.
